Re: EFIgnition 299 euro
Und ewig grüßt das Murmeltier...
Re: EFIgnition 299 euro
Gerade die von James nicht.MS2/Extra may only be used on licensed hardware. This is an unlicensed counterfeit.

Happy to help customers that have bought genuine products. But I have no desire to help those that take my work for free.
Jeroen - if you want to make your own ECU then YOU need to write the firmware yourself.

i have an broken MS3 Daugther Board. I had write the situation in the MS3 Extra Forum und you had answer. Other people had some more ideas but at the end i must accept that the MS3 is broken. And i hoped you can repair the MS3
I wrote to your Mail addy a E-Mail (jsm@jamesmurrayengineering.co.uk) and over the PN function of the msextra forum. But i've never had an answer.
What is your opinion on this?
Re: EFIgnition
Hello James,
I am honestly sorry I (and some other vendors) have hurt your feelings.
Your firmware is brilliant. However, your hardware is crippled.
The DIY thing is really nice. People like to build their own stuff.
But you should have made a new PCB with the new features implemented.
Now it is a big pile of wires and external PCB's.
Not a nice and reliable package at all.
A lot of circuitry of the 3.0 and 3.57 boards are really outdated.
I cannot understand people are still buying that.
I cannot believe you are still selling the +15 years old unrevised package without remorse.
It took you folks an amazingly long time to come up with the MS3 Pro hardware.
At a price... It is a whopping 1200 euro after taxes.
You are now overtaken by the EMU.
Even its latest "black series" is cheaper and offers (WAY) more functionality.
Still, most people do not wan't to shed +1000 euro for an ECU for a relatively simple 4 banger Turbo.
They wan't a reliable and affordable ECU for their project.
MS3 in "DIY" variant is outdated. MS3 in the Pro version is overpriced.
MS2 is only interesting as a PNP device. But then again it is still overpriced.
For me it looks like the MSExtra folks are investing in the wrong team.
The firmware guys definitely did a superb job.
The developer of Tunerstudio is a hero.
The hardware guys have been sound asleep and now and then they come with something that is really overpriced.
It is a bit sad to see where the platform is going. You see new initiatives starting everywhere. New software design.
Those folks also could contribute if you allowed them to.
I am afraid the MS/Extra community has had its best time. And you blame the wrong people for it.
In my opinion the folks that make new solid and affordable hardware and the folks using it are actualy still boosting the community.
You probably do not even have to give that much support as they are quite clever devices and have less problems with RPM pickup and other hardware. Support will now come from the vendors directly.
In my opinion it should go back to open source like it was intended in the beginning.
Vendors should be offered a chance to obtain a license. There will be competition in hardware design and it will bring new and exciting products. And make no mistake: it is not that we do not want to pay for your good work!

Re: EFIgnition
What I don't understand is .. Why not simply sell the firmware to the hardware vendors?
(Damn ... Yesterday I swore to me not to lose one word on that subject)
I am sure that many of the today counterfeit guys would gladly be willing to pay and make their products legit.
Or maybe even sell the firmware direct to the end-user ... something like this.

The Tunerstudio guys are not complaining.
They have figured it out well.
AND keep enhancing their product.

Fully agree to your statement and to the ones before.
Ich stopped designing my own MS PCB (just for my cars and maybe some friends, no commercial benefit considered) as I lost motivation about not being allowed to flash the SW.
I would order pre programmed microcontrollers right away to solder them into my own circuit. But I will Not spend money for that grabby PCB hardware arround.
Why not follow a similar strategy as for TS? Basic functionallity for free to built up and test the own board. For more functionallity purchase a license. James, stop complaining, start working on such approach and your business will grow!

We offer licenses but Prices nobody can pay upfront a new Project...
I would say lets wait 2-3 years and GSlender et al firmwares are complete new without any MS background and MS will start to overthink this old School behavior.
Also redemption to get Support is not possible or willed.
I also don't expect any new Argument or discussion with James (same as years before).
